The beginning: a founder story

During the height of the pandemic in 2020, when many people found themselves either circumstantially or intentionally seeking new careers and jobs, we were approached by a major university to put together a resume writing webinar for their alumni.

They knew that we were founders and principals of an executive search firm, Paradigm Partners – and that we had the knowledge that they were seeking to provide.

Having never done a webinar but knowing that we had deep expertise we could offer based on our many decades of experience in recruiting, we said “Yes”.

We then set about articulating what we had been doing intuitively. Having been on both sides of 10’s of 1000’s of searches and interviews, we had learned what works and what does not work in the job search process.

Participation in that first live webinar far exceeded all expectations. Alumni  expressed genuine appreciation, and many continued to seek our guidance beyond just how to craft a compelling resume.

HeadHunterOnTap was born.

Who We Are

We are executive recruiters who have owned our own search firm for over 30 years. Our expertise in sourcing talent for companies and finding matches that work for both parties has taught us a thing or two about what works “on the ground”.

During this time, countless numbers of individuals have sought our advice about their job searches. We have come to realize that there is a perceptible gap in the world where people can go to get credible, reliable answers to their questions.

Our goal is to share this knowledge that we have gained. Our motto is:

  • Barbara Grossman

    CO-FOUNDER

    With over 25 years of experience in executive recruitment and career advisory services, coupled with a background as a manager on Wall Street and in pioneering technology ventures, Barbara brings a unique blend of skills to her work. Her capacity for empathetic listening, expertise in research and analysis, and results-driven mindset have made her a trusted partner to both clients and candidates alike.

    Finding the right fit is key on both sides of the hiring equation. With experience navigating cycles of rapid growth and contraction, Barbara knows how to tap into new resources, leverage transferrable skills, dig deeper and search wider. Her clients and candidates often remark that she "gets it"—a testament to her deep understanding of both the process and the people involved.

    A strong advocate for leadership and personal development, Barbara holds a BA in Psychology and has a longstanding commitment to education. She served as an elected member of her local public-school board and is devoted to empowering women. As a former Co-Chair and now an active Steering Committee member of the University of Rochester NY Metro Women’s Group, she continues to support the organization’s mission of "Women Supporting Women."

    Barbara’s career path, while a logical progression, has not been linear, and she understands firsthand what career transitions entail. HeadHunterOnTap is the natural outgrowth of her diverse experiences. For Barbara, the most rewarding moments come when a conversation sparks an “aha” moment, opening up new possibilities and pathways for others.

  • Jay Berger

    CO-FOUNDER

    As the founder and leader of an executive search company for over four decades, Jay has functioned as President, Manager, Trainer, Coach, and Mentor.  His insights, sensitivity, and knowledge, along with his creativity have contributed to his success on both the candidate and client sides of the search equation. 

    The development of an innovative model for professionally evaluating and empowering individuals, HeadHunterOnTap is a seamless extension of Jay’s deep industry expertise along with his commitment to understanding and connecting people with their full potential. 

    With the goal of sharing this knowledge, the mission of HeadHunterOnTap is to provide expert career guidance that is accessible, affordable and actionable to people who most need it when they need it the most.

    Jay has appeared on radio and television, written articles, spoken at conferences, presented at Universities, and has been called upon to appear in court as an expert witness.

    He holds a BA degree in Communications, a course of study driven by his desire to understand how people and the world interact.  He is most proud of having touched the lives of thousands of people and contributing to the growth of some really great careers and some really tremendous companies.
